Goodbye summer and hello fall! The last four months have been jam-packed with fun times and memories, but it’s time to embrace the changes this new season has to offer. Not only is fall a time for cozy sweaters, thick scarves and pumpkin spiced lattes; it’s also a perfect time to spice up your home with the freshest trends of the season. When thinking about doing an update to your home, it may seem a little daunting at first. Don’t let that prevent you from switching things up, because interior designer Lori Steeves of Simply Home Decorating is here to help make your home the best around!
In order to fully embrace the season, Steeves believes the key is to incorporate the trendiest colours into your home in the most unique ways.
1. Love the blues
While the traditional fall colours, red and orange are still pivotal in fully embracing the season, according to Steeves, “blue has been very popular over the past few seasons, and it continues to remain on trend into the fall.” The versatility and endless amount of shades is only one reason why blue is the hot colour of the season. Try to stay as far away from black as possible, instead use navy, which will give your space a little extra personality.
2. Bring on the warmth
When the weather begins to change and you are no longer able to be outside in shorts, it’s time to bring the warmth inside. In order to soften rich blues, add hints of brass, rose gold or copper to your walls and décor. This will give your room a sense of warmth, which is just what you need when the weather starts to be too cold outside!
3. Accents, accents, accents!
If you aren’t quite ready to commit to a full overhaul of your home, don’t worry, you can still have the same effect by using blues in more subtle ways. From pillows and artwork to lamps and centrepieces, these changeable accessories allow you to adapt to the changing seasons with ease. All you have to do is simply switch out a few key pieces every season, and it’s like an entirely new space. If you really want to step up your game, don’t be afraid to pair cool blue tones with a warmer colour such as orange or red.
4. Simple and classic
When thinking of fall there are two colours that typically come to mind, those two colours are of course red and orange. Don’t fight them, embrace them. To keep these classic colours still feeling new and modern, pair them with white or charcoal gray. When revamping your space use colours such as orange and copper sparingly rather than as the main colour. This helps tone down the intensity of those gorgeous fall colours.
5. Mix and match
If you really want to step up your game this fall, why not mix the cool blues with the intense oranges and reds? The warmth of the fall hues, offsets the coolness of the blues, which will give your space a bold, fresh new look.
